World Observes ‘Mental Health Day’

Web Desk: World mental health day is being observed today (Thursday) in Pakistan and all around the world. In Pakistan, 35% of the whole population is suffering from depression.
The event occurs on the 10th of October every year since 1992. The major objective to observe this day is to spread awareness about mental problems and stop people from committing suicides. A conference was held by Neurology Aeroscience and Research Foundation at press club Karachi, briefing the journalists about the increasing rate of depression in Pakistan.
The main reason behind depression is low living standards and social and financial crisis. Depression is found among all ages including children and adults. In every 40 seconds, a person is committing suicide and depression is the main reason behind it, Experts said.
The number of suicide cases in Pakistan is also soaring. Experts explain that the rise of injustice, hopelessness, poverty, lack of joint family system, unemployment, inferiority complex, mental abuse, race for competitive grades in educational institutes are the main reasons behind suicides. Karachi faces more cases of mental illness comparing to the rest of the cities, Prof Doctor Muhammad Wasey said.
Every fourth person and the tenth kid is suffering from mental problems. More than fifty lacs people are facing mental problems in which ‘Depression’ and ‘Anxiety’ are at the top of the chart.
