‘Tax Amnesty Scheme’, PM Imran urges nation to declare assets
Prime Minister Imran Khan in an address to the nation has urged the citizens to declare their assets under government tax amnesty scheme.
In his address, PM Imran said, “We are stuck in a debt trap”. “Why are we here? Because of corruption and theft of taxes. To end tax theft, I need your help,” he said.
He further said, “In the last ten years, debt of the country has increased from 6000 billion to 30,000 billion. Now, half of the tax money is being spent on interest payments of these loans.”
He confidently said, “we will tackle the menace of corruption.”
The Prime Minister said 5500 billion rupees are needed to be collected in taxes for the next year. He said Pakistanis are a generous nation and they have a history of contributing massively in national calamities. He said if the citizens cooperate, a sum of 8000 billion rupees can be collected each year.
PM Imran said, “I have initiated this scheme [under which] you can declare your assets until June 30.”
“This scheme is a golden opportunity for you to declare money, dollars, jewelry, benami accounts and foreign assets that you possess,” he said.
“Until the people do not resolve, along with the government, to extricate itself from these loans, they will not be able to get out if [the debt trap].”
“The Federal Board of Revenue has all the data. If you will visit FBR website, you will find out what data we possess. I don’t want difficulties for you [in the future], that’s why I want you to take advantage of [the scheme],” he said.
It is not the first time the prime minister has asked citizens to take advantage of the scheme, which is set to expire in nine days.
