Polling in tribal districts concluded, counting is underway
PESHAWAR: Polling for the first-ever election of 16 Khyber Pakhtunkhwa Assembly seats in the tribal districts has been completed and counting is under way.
Polling for the election of the 16 general seats is underway in Bajaur, Khyber tribal districts, Kurram, North Waziristan and South Waziristan tribal districts and Orakzai.
People in many districts started lining up outside polling stations early in the morning and reports from the districts suggest that the polling process started between 8.00am and 8.30am in all districts.
There are 285 candidates for 16 general seats, including nominees of Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaaf (16), Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-Fazl (15), Awami National Party (14), Pakistan Peoples Party (13), Jamaat-i-Islami (13), Pakistan Muslim League-Nawaz (5) Qaumi Watan Party (3) and independents (201).
The Election Commission of Pakistan has set up 1,897 polling stations across the region, previously called Fata. Of them, 554 have been declared highly sensitive.
