My remarks regarding Dr. Aafia reported out of context: FO spokesperson
ISLAMABAD: Foreign Office Spokesperson Mohammad Faisal clarified today that his remarks regarding Dr. Aafia Siddiqui were reported out of context by media.
Addressing his weekly brief at FO, the spokesperson said that his remarks that Dr. Aafia ‘did not want to return back’ were quoted out of context. He said whole interview was not shown and he encourages responsible journalism.
“We are in touch with Dr. Aafia and her family and will continue efforts to bring her back to Pakistan. We continue raising issue in Islamabad and in Washington,” Faisal said. The last meeting held between Dr. Aafia and Pakistan’s counsel general in Houston was held on April 18 this year, spokesperson added.
In an interview with independent urdu, Faisal was reported saying, “Dr Aafia will not come back. She does not want to come back herself, as per the information I have.” He was quoted that the only chance Dr Aafia has of returning is if Prime Minister Imran Khan and US President Donald Trump meet in the future.
Speaking about attacks in Sri Lanka on Easter Sunday during his briefing today, the FO spokesperson said that till now they have not officially received any call of assistance from Sri Lanka. He said Pakistan is ready to give any kind of assistance to country.
