Life imprisonment means to remain imprisoned until death: CJP
ISLAMABAD: Chief Justice of Pakistan (CJP), Asif Saeed Khosa has stated that the concept of life imprisonment in Pakistan’s judicial system means to remain imprisoned until death.
Asif Saeed Khosa affirmed these remarks while hearing the petition of an accused namely Abdul Qayyum seeking sentence suspension in a murder case.
“Imprisonment for life does not mean that an individual will serve 25 years in jail, it means that he will continue to remain imprisoned until death”, Chief Justice said.
“When the right time comes, we will redefine the meaning of life-long imprisonment. Once it is done, suspects will seek death sentence instead of whole-life tariff”, he added.
