Islamabad to face Lahore in PSL Karachi-leg opener today
KARACHI: Karachi is gearing up for its first PSL 4 match of the year at National Stadium. Showdown between Islamabad United and Lahore Qalandars will begin today.
Over 13,000 policemen are on duty for the security of the match and the subsequent seven matches that will be held in the port city. The Rangers are handling security within the National Stadium.
“There are 7,720 policemen who have been assigned duty in east zone and 2,260 others will be on guard in south zone,” Sindh IG Kaleem Imam said. “The Special Security Unit’s 565 personnel and 1,780 traffic policemen will perform their duties as well,” he added.
A traffic plan has also been issued for the matches.
Defending champion United are in an uncertain territory with eight points in nine games, and need a win to qualify for play-offs for which Quetta Gladiators and Peshawar Zalmi have already qualified.
In case of a loss, fate of United will rest on the results of Qalandars last game against Multan Sultans and the two matches Karachi Kings will play against Peshawar Zalmi and Quetta Gladiators.
Qalandars are once again in the trouble, with six points from their eight matches, and have also lost their key batsman AB de Villiers. Defeat will eliminate Qalandars from league.
