Facebook Pay lets you spend and send money on Messenger, WhatsApp and Instagram
It will soon be a reality, with the social media giant announcing a new service called Facebook Pay. Launching first in the U.S, it will be available across Facebook, Messenger, Instagram, and WhatsApp, and is designed to facilitate payments across the company’s social networks and apps. You’ll be able to use Facebook Pay to send money to friends, shop for goods, purchase event tickets or even donate to fundraisers. “Over time, we plan to bring Facebook Pay to more people and places, including for use across Instagram and WhatsApp,” according to Facebook’s vice president of marketplace and commerce, Deborah Liu. Futurist Chris Riddell says the social media giant is launching the feature to gain access to even more of its users’ personal data. “This is not about transaction fees, it’s about them knowing what you purchase, where you’re purchasing it and then being able to target you with advertising afterward,” he told Sunrise. An Australian launch date for Facebook Pay is yet to be announced.
